The helpline received a call regarding a Vauxhall Astra G 2.0 DTI vehicle which was brought into the garage with the engine management system warning light (MIL) illuminated, but the driver reported no driveability issues on the vehicle.

Mercedes Benz CLK200 - Non Starting Problems

The helpline received a call on a Mercedes Benz CLK200 which was reported to have developed a poor starting fault which then progressed to a total non-starter issue.

The caller connected diagnostic equipment to the vehicle, and retrieved Camshaft position sensor fault codes from the engine management system control module. On this vehicle a Bosch ME-SIM4 engine management system is fitted which uses both Crankshaft and Camshaft position sensors to detect engine speed and engine position. Both sensors are required to be fully functional before the engine management system control module will allow the engine to start.

Vauxhall Vectra C1.9 DTI - Alternator Chargiing System Fault

The helpline have received numerous calls on alternator charging system problems on Vauxhall Vectra C 1.9 DTI vehicles. On this vehicle fitted with the Z19DTH engine code, all of the alternator charging controls take place inside the alternator. All the issues on alternator charging problems have required a replacement Alternator to rectify the problem on the vehicle.

VW Polo 1,4i 16v - Idle Surging Problem

The helpline received a call from the owner of a VW Polo 1.4i 16V whose vehicle was suffering from excessive surging problems, especially when the engine was cold. This problem was also experienced when the engine had fully warmed up to normal operating temperatures, but to a lesser degree.

VW Transporter 2.5 TDI - ABS System Wiring Fault

The helpline received a call from a garage who had a VW Transporter 2.5 TDI vehicle, which had a re-occurring ABS system fault. Each time the caller connected diagnostic equipment to the vehicle, fault codes were retrieved from the ABS systems for missing signals from both of the rear wheel speed sensors. The caller had suspected faulty wheel speed sensors, and had already replaced the rear wheel speed sensors with new units.

Audi A6 2.4i Petrol - Oil Pressure Wrning Light Problem

The helpline received an unusual call recently regarding an Audi A6 2.4i petrol model fitted with an automatic transmission system. The caller had reported a fault on the vehicle where the oil pressure warning light remained illuminated when the engine was started and driven. The oil pressure warning light illumination occurred both when the engine was cold and when warmed up to normal operating (hot) temperatures.

In addition, the vehicle’s rev counter was showing an unstable idle value (even though the engine idled normally at the correct engine idle speed), and when the vehicle was driven there was a noticeably poor response from the automatic gearbox.
